Allegation
Alleged that a palmolein-oil-and-essence blend was being made and packed as 'desi ghee' under various brand labels for sale ahead of Diwali.
Outcome
The Food and Drug Control Administration (FDCA), Vadodara, raided the unit · 8,136 kg (≈ ₹42 lakh) of suspected ghee sealed · 4 samples sent to a state food laboratory.

Ghee consumption in Gujarati homes peaks before Diwali, and that is exactly when adulterators get busy. Yuvrajsinh Jadeja filed a complaint with the Food and Drug Control Administration (FDCA) about a unit operating in Por GIDC (Ramangamdi industrial area), Vadodara district, and he and his team were present during the raid.

What was found

According to press reports, officials raided a unit named ‘Chalisa Foods’ late on the evening of Sunday, 18 October 2026:

  • About 5,200 kg of suspected ghee in a storage tank, ready for packing (≈ ₹26 lakh)
  • About 2,936 kg already packed under various brand names in 15 kg tins, 1-litre and 500 ml packs (≈ ₹16 lakh)
  • A total of 8,136 kg sealed, with 4 samples sent to a state-approved food laboratory

The allegation is that a blend of palmolein oil and essence was being readied for sale as “desi cow ghee”. The role of the brands seen on the packaging has not been determined; any conclusion will come from the lab report.

The details on this page are based on public news reports and on-the-ground footage. This page will be updated when the lab report is out.

How to check ghee at home

FSSAI’s “DART” booklet lists a few simple home checks. For example, if a few drops of iodine turn a ghee sample blue/purple, it may be adulterated with starch (such as mashed potato). Remember: home checks only give a hint; a lab test is the only conclusive proof.

  • Be wary of “pure ghee” sold at unusually low prices
  • Check the FSSAI licence number, manufacturer’s name and address, and batch number on the pack
  • Avoid buying loose ghee

Where to complain about adulteration

  • Online via FSSAI’s Food Safety Connect app or website
  • Your district office of the Food and Drug Control Administration (FDCA), Gujarat
  • You can also confidentially alert Yuvrajsinh Jadeja’s team on WhatsApp
